OK, so this isn't quite a "how to volunteer" information posting. The following are some ideas about
proposed positions for volunteering.

The Socialites

  • Organizing local GIDA get-togethers (social, educational and/or networking events)
  • Join organization of training events and conferences with local societies (e.g. ISPI, ASTD, CIT)
  • "The Welcome Wagon" - introducing new students to GIDA (face to face and online) and presenting WIIFM information for them to join and participate
  • Finds students and alumni who want to share their capstones and facilitates the capstone sharing process (using UMass Boston's Scholarworks)

Blogging & Microblogging

  • Bloggers - eLearning Industry News (Blogger/Ning)
  • Blogger - Department News & Interviews (Blogger/Ning)
  • Bloggers - Instruction Design Trends (Blogger/Ning)
  • Bloggers - Faculty Bloggers (Blogger)
  • Blogger - Director of the Program (Blogger)


  • Calendar Maintainers (Ning) - Adding events to Calendar for events & workshops
  • Moderator (Ning) - Moderates Blog and Forum Posts on Ning
  • Group Leader : Show and Tell - leads the show and tell group, starts activities, gets people interested
  • Group Leader : PhD Lounge - leads the group, provides news and info on the subject, starts activities, gets people interested


  • Marketing Designer - Works on the color schemes and designs for our marketing materials (PPT, DOC, WEB)
  • Logo Designer - Works keeping Logo & Mascot imagery up to date
  • Web Developers (HTML/CSS) - Works on Implementing Web related Look & Feel UI elements in our online holdings

Groups & FanPages

  • Facebook Manager - Manages the GIDA Facebook Page
  • LinkedIn Editors - Keeps an eye out on the LinkedIn Group, approves new members, adds content, invites new members

Links & Multimedia

  • News Agent - Reading the UMBGIDA Google Reader and Sharing Articles
  • Link Agent - Managing the Diigo account and posting new/useful links
  • Video Master - Manages the YouTube & Vimeo
  • Flickr Manager - Manages the Flickr Account
  • Document Manager - Manages the Scribd Account (adds ID documents, finds interesting docs to share)
  • Slide Master - Manages the SlideShare Account


  • Wiki Content Editors - Edits content added by users and adds articles

Liaisons gather News and Info, passes it one to Bloggers, Calendar Managers & Communications Officer as needed and posts info to blog(s) as well
